Cincinnati to host gay art exhibit
CINCINNATI (The Yellow Page) An exhibit of gay visual art, dealing directly with homosexual and lesbian relationships and images, is scheduled for June 1981 at the Cincinnati Artists Group Effort Gallery, C.A.G.E. A goal of the exhibit is to include works by gay artists from throughout the United States. Hudson, the curator for this exhibit, is requesting entries from gay artists via the national gay media as well as through gay art galleries in Chicago and New York City.
The exhibit, as yet untitled, is scheduled to coincide with the time surrounding National Gay Pride Week 1981. Currently other inquiries are being made to present other gay art forms theatre, poetry, film here in Cincinnati during that same time period.
The main goal of the exhibit is to allow a forum for art of lesbian and homosexual orientation to
be exhibited, viewed and purchased. It is rare that any art gallery in any U.S. city exhibit explicitly, gay art, leaving the market for such work to a few galleries in a few cities. In A Plain Brown Wrapper, Stuart Wilber's gay art gallery in Chicago is closing down as of January 1, 1981, as he found that after years of exhibitions, including gay works by an internationally noted artist, the local press still refused to cover these exhibits.
A request to the Cincinnati Gay Community for help in this project is now being made with the publication of this article. C.A.G.E. has offered the space for the exhibit, basic publicity and some volunteer help. What is needed is financial aid tax deductable and volunteer labor to properly exhibit and publize the work, to have a festive opening reception and to have a catalogue and essay about the exhi-

Pittsburgh law conference
PITTSBURGH-March 13-15 are the dates for the 1981 national conference on Law and the Fight for Lesbian and Gay Rights, to be held in Pittsburgh, Pa. Designed to appeal to a wide audience of lawyers and all persons interested in current activity in the struggle to secure legal equality, the conference will offer a potpourri of information and eduation.
Workshops make up most of the weekend's agenda, and will be conducted by experienced and well-known members of the legal profession. A workshop dealing with gays in the military will feature Nan Hunter, an attorney in private practice in Washington, D.C., and Joe Schuman, who practices in Chicago. John Ward, director of Boston's Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders, will con-
duct workshops on Youth Rights planned to keep the weekend and Police Abuse. from being all work, and the gay media will have more information
A Saturday evening dinner will spotlight the keynote address by Judge Stephen Lachs of Los Angeles, an openly gay jurist who sits on the Superior Court of California. Judge Lachs is an articulate and conscientious advocate for lesbian and gay rights, and his experience on the bench should make him a fascinating speaker.
Two skills presentations will occur at the conference, one on conducting a jury voir dir, and the other on examination of expert witnesses. Although these presentations target the legal professionals in attendance, they should also be of interest to anyone concerned with homophobia in the technical practice of the law.
Entertainment is being
on the featured films and enter-
tainers in the weeks to come. The
pace of events will wind up Sunday afternoon with repeat workshops and a panel discussion on pornography and its divisive effects on the lesbian-feminist and gay male communities.
Contributions to the conference can be sent, tax deductable, to: The Capp Street Foundation, 558 Capp St., San Francisco, CA 94110.
Information on registration and conference attendance can be obtained from: Gay Law Students/National Lawyer's Guild, University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Forbes & Bouquet, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15260.
